A turntable in motion. A needle finding its groove. A soundscape taking shape in real-time.
As the sun sets and shadows stretch across the Art Gallery of Ontario’s Walker Court, Maria Chavez takes the stage—building layers of sound with turntables, vinyl, and unexpected textures. A leading voice in sound art and DJing, Chavez blends fractured records, ambient tones, and pulsing beats into a set that shifts and evolves with the moment.
By day, soft ambient sounds and crackling vinyl fill the space, creating a meditative atmosphere. As night falls, the energy builds—layering rhythmic beats and textured sounds that shift with the moment. Chavez transforms the space into a celebration inviting the audience to dance. The performance blends structure with improvisation, responding to the room, the audience, and the changing night.
More than just a DJ set, this is a live sound experience that reacts to its surroundings. With free admission on Wednesday, it’s a rare opportunity to step inside and experience sound in a whole new way.
