In Memory of Peter Herrndorf
We are deeply saddened to learn of the loss of Peter A. Herrndorf, C.C., O. Ont., one of Canada’s greatest cultural leaders.
Peter joined the Board of Luminato Festival Toronto as a founding Director in November 2006, and assumed the role of Chair in September 2018.
His contributions to the arts in Canada were both enormous and longstanding. To everyone at Luminato, and so many in Canada’s arts community, Peter was a leader, mentor, advisor, and friend; his counsel cannot be replaced, and he will be dearly missed every day.

Black Ark
Last summer, Nigerian-Canadian artist Oluseye Ogunlesi brought us Black Ark at Ashbridges Bay Park. Built of wood and polished metal, Black Ark commemorated the migrations of Black people through time, space and place.
In this intimate inside look, Oluseye sat down with Natasha ‘Courage’ Bacchus in his studio to talk about the inspiration and conceptualization of this work, as well as its significance to Canada’s history.

Explore the Access Hub
Luminato Festival Toronto is working hard to bring accessibility into the centre of what we do. We know this is a deep process that requires a long-term commitment. We are excited to share the Access Hub with you.
The Land
The land we gather on is the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Chippewa, the Anishinaabeg, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat Confederacy, and many other Indigenous peoples, both known and unknown. This territory is subject to Treaty 13 and the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant and is home to many First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples from across Turtle Island.
Luminato acknowledges our responsibilities to these territorial agreements and to peaceably share and care for the resources of this land while aspiring to embody the treaties through our actions, our relationship-building, and our programs. Luminato is grateful to have the opportunity to work with many diverse Indigenous nations on this territory and with other guests to this land.
