As part of our
Conversation Series complementing the festival programme, Luminato Festival Toronto is proud to partner with
Wedge Curatorial Projects
to present The Wedge Lecture, an annual two-day program with a focus on Black identity and contemporary art, which will include a public conversation and private workshop.
For this inaugural event, the 2024 Wedge Lecture welcomes Thelma Golden, Director and Chief Curator of the Studio Museum in Harlem and Dr. Julie Crooks, Curator, Arts of Global Africa and the Diaspora at the Art Gallery of Ontario, in conversation about their careers and experiences as Black curators in major cultural institutions.
Wedge Curatorial Projects (WCP) is a non-profit organization with a focus on Black artistic practices, established in Toronto by Dr. Kenneth Montague in 1997. WCP organizes exhibitions and lectures that explore Diasporic narratives, identity, and issues around representation. Exhibiting local and international artists, WCP is fueled by collaboration, creativity, and accessibility in the arts.
Luminato 2024 features an exceptional lineup of artists from across the African Diaspora, from Africa (Ghana, Somalia, and Côte d'Ivoire) to the Caribbean (Jamaica, Haiti, and Trinidad), Europe (U.K.) and North America (U.S. and Canada).
