Rufus Wainwright teams with Grammy and Tony-winning music director Stephen Oremus to redefine dozens of the most beloved gems in the Great American Songbook, all love songs from Broadway musicals. David Byrne: Known as the force behind Talking Heads and creator of the highly-regarded record label Luaka Bop, Byrne also works as a photographer, film director, author, and solo artist; he has published and exhibited visual art for more than a decade. His works include: Playing the Building, an interactive sound installation at the Battery Maritime Building (NY), a collaboration with Brian Eno: Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, a series of unique bike racks placed throughout NYC with the cooperation of the NYC Dept. of Transportation, Bicycle Diaries, a chronicle of David’s travels on his bicycle, Talking Heads: Chronology, a DVD featuring live performances (1976-1983), and a collaboration with Will Oldham for the soundtrack to the Sean Penn film This Must be the Place. Love This Giant, Byrne’s collaboration with St. Vincent, was released in September of 2012 and was followed by tour dates across the world. Byrne’s latest book, How Music Works, was also published in September 2012 by McSweeney’s and was released last September in paperback. The theatrical production of Here Lies Love premiered at The Public Theater in New York in April 2013, was extended four times and won an Outer Critics Circle Award, an Obie Award; Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Music, Lighting Design, and Projection Design; and two Theatre World Awards. This spring the show will return to The Public Theater for an open-ended commercial run and a HLL cast recording will be released on Nonesuch Records.
Brent Carver is an internationally recognized performer having starred in numerous roles throughout Canada, the United States and England in theatre, film, and television.
In 1979 at Los Angeles’ Mark Taper Forum, Brent played Ariel opposite Anthony Hopkins in Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Displaying versatility and dedication, Brent has performed major roles in Richard III, Cyrano De Bergerac, Tartuffe, Jacques Brel, Cabaret, Much Ado About Nothing, Lord of the Rings, Mother Courage, and Kiss Of The Spider Woman for which he won a Tony Award on Broadway. His solo show Brent Carver In Concert played to sold out venues in both Toronto and Vancouver. Brent was awarded the 2001 Capital Critics Theatre Award for Best Actor for his performance in Larry's Party. He has played opposite Christopher Plummer in King Lear at Lincoln Center and received critical praise for his role in Vigil for Canadian Stage. Brent has recently performed in Romeo & Juliet on Broadway and Jesus Christ Superstar, Camelot, Jacques Brel and As You Like It at Stratford.
Brent has also appeared in television movies and series such as This Is Wonderland, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Da Vinci: Dream of Flight, Millennium, The Wars, The Song Spinner, Love and Hate and The Twilight Zone. He was critically acclaimed for his role as the Countess in the feature film Lilies, for his title role in Whiskers he received an Emmy nomination and he has won Gemini Awards for his performances in Street Legal, Due South and Elizabeth Rex. Brennan Hall: American countertenor Brennan Hall is a native of Orlando, Florida and made his professional debut singing as a soloist in Bach’s Saint John Passion with the American Bach Soloists, under the direction of Jeffrey Thomas. Hall was praised by the San Francisco Classical Voice for his “remarkably rich voice throughout his range… and admirable musical intelligence.” Hall has been a frequent soloist for the Bloomington Bach Cantata Project and the Bloomington Early Music Festival. He has acquired degrees from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and Rollins College. Brennan is also a featured performer in Matthew Barney’s film River of Fundament, also showing at this year’s Festival.
Ezra Koenig is the lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for the New York based rock band Vampire Weekend. In addition to being a part of the band, Koenig is also involved in a number of musical projects. During this year’s broadcast of the 2014 Academy Awards, Koenig accompanied Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on backing vocals and acoustic guitar for her performance of the Oscar-nominated song “The Moon Song” from Spike Jonze’s movie, Her.
