Let’s talk about how T’karonto’s downtown Chinatown is not a monolith, and more than a tourist destination; an active community, home to many, and full of stories.
Join Hannia Cheng, co-founder of Tea Base and founding member of Friends of Chinatown Toronto (FOCT), as they take you on a 90-minute podcast-style adventure through Chinatown filled with artistic interventions, interviews, and interactive prompts.
Informed by the historical and global contexts in the evolution of Chinatowns in Western cities, this audio experience takes a deep look into the complexities of migration, displacement, and assimilation that happen across generations and Turtle Island. It is only through recognizing the multiplicity of downtown Chinatown can we collectively imagine its speculative futures.
Access this free audio tour below and receive a pamphlet with the full walking map and instructions on how to participate in the audio walking tour.

A note from Tea Base
We put a lot of love into this FREE experience, so all we ask is that you support Chinatown in return.
Chinatown is a very cash-oriented economy. If you have the means, please bring $20-40 in cash with you for a fuller experience.
Here is our dreamy grocery list for the Chinatown Community Fridge in Chinese (simplified + traditional), Vietnamese, and English: GroceryListPosts.pdf
Make sure you bring water and stay hydrated during the audio adventure!

About Tea Base
Tea Base is a curious community arts space tucked away in Tkaronto/Toronto’s Chinatown Centre Mall. With the mission of making accessible space for intergenerational activists and artists who support social justice movements in and around Chinatown, Tea Base develops solidarity across marginalized groups through relationships, joy, and collaboration.
Sharing the same name, Tea Base is also a grassroots collective of queer artists, organizers, and cultural facilitators. We promote community engagement by hosting events, cultural programming, exhibitions, and workshops related to issues of displacement and healing for the “Asian diasporas”.
