About Queer Songbook Youth Orchestra
The Queer Songbook Youth Orchestra (QSYO) are a brand new Toronto based ensemble, an exciting new avenue for queer, trans and allied youth to further their musical training while actively engaging in the representation of 2SLGBTQ+ experience. For this debut performance the QSYO are performing as a hybrid ensemble with members and mentors of the Queer Songbook Orchestra (QSO), who have been active in the exploration and portrayal of 2SLGBTQ+ experience since forming in 2014.
The QSYO are incredibly fortunate to be joined for this performance by singer, composer, and elder transgender activist Beverly Glenn Copeland. Having been recording and releasing albums for over 50 years, Glenn Copeland’s music has only recently found a broad international audience and at long last he is being recognized for the profound musician that he is.
Believing now that he was writing music for today’s young people all along, the chance to present Glenn Copeland supported by an orchestra of youth is a very unique opportunity that in many ways has been decades in the making.
