Anthony Pierre

Born into a musical family in his native Trinidad and Tobago, Tony studied classical piano from the age of 8, but was always drawn to the rich folk and popular music of the Caribbean, and by his late teens began playing pan with one of Trinidad’s top steel bands, Silver Stars. After migrating to Canada, that passion for music led him to perform with Toronto top steel bands; act and play percussion and keyboards in theatre and folk ensembles; and perform on keyboards in dance bands; all part of the rich world music culture in Toronto. Tony now leads the jazz sextet, Kalabash, as a percussionist, but is always happy to sit in with percussion ensembles like Toronto’s Rumberos and Samba Squad, or Caribbean music ensembles like Mokaand Shak Shak.
