Nicole Brooks, Tu Nokwe and the cast of Obeah Opera
Last week, for the first time, we hosted Luminescence: a multi-sensory, fully immersive performance of music, dance, film and visual art from Luminato’s 2019 and 2020 programs alongside an exclusive fine dining experience by chef Chris Brown of Victor Dries.
Taking place in Toronto’s historic Great Hall, Luminescence was an art lover’s paradise – from the psychedelic Conversation Room, bathed in a vivid multicoloured glow, to the serene Great Hall, filled with projections and setting the tone with incredible live performances from Luminato 2019 and 2020 artists. There was also a mind-bending homage to House of Mirrors and the building’s Longboat Hall was transformed into an ice room bathed in a crystalline Luminato-blue light.

Luminescence guests got to experience a range of incredible performances, from the melodic harmonies of Evalyn Parry and Cris Derksen, who performed a piece from Kiinalik: These Sharp Tools, to the uplifting gospel-inflected a capella from the all-female cast of Obeah Opera – Luminescence was a truly unique and truly Luminato experience!

A special thank you to our guests, artists, supporters and partners who helped celebrate an early kick off to Luminato 2019 in style!
