Pan Fantasy Steel Band

Pan Fantasy, under the umbrella of the North York Inter-Community Youth Group, is a community-based organization that provides ongoing activities within the steelpan community. Pan Fantasy continually recruits young people into its seasonal programming as a way to make positive change. “We believe that it is our responsibility to engage the youth to form relationships and help them become strong leaders among their peers and assist in building a better community so they too can contribute in a positive way to society,” says band leader Wendy Jones. While striving to create an awareness of cultural programming within the Canadian context, “I always tell the kids in my classes when I do workshops: do not lose your culture. We came to Canada, we brought our culture with us - don't be afraid to let it shine,” Wendy says.
