Roxanne Ignatius is a Toronto based textile installation artist, sculptor, and costume designer who draws inspiration from folk arts, traditional textiles and weaving, and the natural world and our place within it. She has created interactive textile installations for Harbourfront Centre, Summerworks Theatre Festival, and Nuit Blanche, as well as public parks and music venues across the city. As a frequent collaborator with actors, puppeteers, musicians, dancers, and performers of all kinds, Roxanne builds unorthodox connections across art forms and looks for audiences outside of the gallery setting.
About Mush Room:
Mush Room is a soft sculpture installation inspired by fungi, the original upcyclers. Colourful, oversized flowers and mushrooms are collaged from fabric scraps, found textiles, and re worked pieces of past installations. Drapes of fabric and soft chairs create an environment designed for rest, relaxation, and maybe even decomposition. Drawing on the long tradition of quilting, “Mush Room” seeks to bridge the gap between the past and the present, breathing new life into worn fabrics and granting them renewed purpose.
