MonkYi (formerly fpmonkey) is a Chinese-Canadian muralist and visual artist from Scarborough, with years of experience living and creating abroad. As a natural explorer and inspired by all ranges of life, MonkYi’s expressions are richly diverse and are anthropological in nature, exploring different concepts, connections and perspectives. MonkYi enjoys creating intuitively with a focus on linework and bold colours, and often falls into the styles of surrealism and lowbrow art. Much of her work has elements of Chinese culture from which her roots are, and are a reflection of her continuous journey of reconnecting with her heritage. In Toronto, she has worked with StART Street Art Toronto, Steps Public Art, as well as a number of local BIAs and businesses. Outside of art, MonkYi is an anthropology graduate and is certified in Montessori education.
